AISI 420 / 420C Stainless Steel Balls

AISI 420 / 420C Stainless Steel Balls

AISI 420 and 420C stainless steel balls are martensitic stainless steels that can be hardened to achieve high strength and wear resistance. 420C offers higher hardness due to increased carbon content, while 420 provides relatively better corrosion resistance and toughness.

Detailed Description

Also known as hardened stainless steel balls, 420 and 420C are used in applications requiring higher hardness and wear resistance than austenitic stainless steels.

AISI 420 / 420C Stainless Steel Balls

AISI 420 and 420C stainless steel balls are manufactured from martensitic stainless steel and can be heat treated through hardening and tempering to achieve high strength and wear resistance.

420C, with significantly higher carbon content, achieves higher hardness and is preferred for demanding wear-resistant applications. 420 offers slightly better corrosion resistance and toughness, making it more suitable for applications where some corrosion resistance is still required.

FAQ
What information do you need for a quotation?
Please provide ball size, material grade (420 or 420C), quantity, required grade, application and delivery terms.
What is the difference between 420 and 420C stainless steel balls?
420C has higher carbon content, enabling higher hardness and better wear resistance. 420 offers slightly better corrosion resistance and toughness.
Are 420 stainless steel balls hardened?
Yes, 420 and 420C stainless steel balls are typically supplied in hardened and tempered condition to achieve high strength and wear resistance.
How do 420 balls compare to 304 or 316 stainless steel balls?
420 balls offer significantly higher hardness and wear resistance, but at the cost of lower corrosion resistance and toughness compared to austenitic grades (304/316). Selection should be based on whether wear resistance or corrosion resistance is the primary requirement.
Are 420 stainless steel balls corrosion resistant?
They provide moderate corrosion resistance but are not suitable for highly corrosive or marine environments. For such conditions, 316 is recommended.
Can 420 balls be used in bearing applications?
They can be used in bearing applications where both hardness and corrosion resistance are required. However, compared with chrome steel, 420 stainless steel has lower fatigue resistance, and may not be suitable for high-speed or high-precision applications.
Can you provide custom sizes or specifications?
Yes, custom sizes, heat treatment conditions and packaging are available. MOQ depends on specifications.
Can you provide samples for testing?
Yes, samples are available. Standard sizes are usually available from stock.
Do you provide inspection reports or certificates?
Yes, inspection reports include hardness, dimensions and tolerance. Material certificates are available upon request.
What packaging options do you offer?
Cartons, steel drums, bulk bags and customized packaging are available.
